1. About this policy
This policy explains how Moorina ("we", "us") collects, uses, discloses, and protects personal information when you use moorina.co.nz (the "Platform"). We handle personal information in accordance with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 and the Information Privacy Principles.
By using the Platform you agree to this policy. If you do not agree, please stop using the Platform.
2. Information we collect
- Account information: name, email, phone number, date of birth, profile photo, and account type.
- Listing information: mooring location and coordinates, photos, pricing, availability, certificates and inspection details, and marina details.
- Booking information: dates, vessel details, insurance details, special requests, check-in and check-out records.
- Payment information: transaction records, payout status, and limited card metadata. Full card numbers are collected and stored by Stripe, not by us.
- Identity verification: where you choose to verify, Stripe Identity processes your document and returns only a pass/fail result and basic details to us.
- Communications: messages between users, enquiries, reviews, reports, and support correspondence.
- Technical and usage data: IP address, device and browser type, pages viewed, searches, and interactions, collected via cookies and similar technologies.
Providing this information is voluntary, but some of it is necessary to create an account, publish a listing, or complete a booking.
3. How we use your information
- Create and manage your account, listings, and bookings.
- Process payments, holds, refunds, and Host payouts.
- Enable messaging and share the details each party needs to complete a stay.
- Send transactional notifications such as booking requests, approvals, reminders, and receipts.
- Verify identity, prevent fraud, and keep the community safe.
- Provide customer support and resolve disputes.
- Analyse usage to improve, secure, and develop the Platform.
- Send marketing or listing alerts where you have opted in — you can unsubscribe at any time.
- Meet legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.
4. What other users can see
- Publicly visible: your display name, profile photo, verification badge, listing content, and reviews you post.
- Shared on booking: once a booking is requested or confirmed, the Host and Guest see the contact and vessel details needed for that stay.
- Not shared: your payment details, identity documents, and full account records are never shown to other users.
You must only use another user's information for the booking it relates to. Misuse — including marketing, harassment, or adding people to mailing lists — is a breach of our Terms.
5. Sharing with third parties
We share information only where necessary, with:
- Service providers: Stripe (payments, payouts, identity), Google Maps (location and mapping), cloud hosting, email delivery, and analytics providers, acting under contract on our behalf.
- Professional advisers: lawyers, accountants, and insurers where reasonably required.
- Authorities: where required by law, court order, or to investigate fraud, protect our legal rights, or address a serious threat to safety.
- Business transfers: a successor entity if Moorina is sold, merged, or restructured, subject to this policy.
We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we do not share it for third-party advertising.
6. Overseas storage
Some of our providers store or process data outside New Zealand, including in Australia, the United States, and the European Union. We take reasonable steps to ensure they protect your information with safeguards comparable to those required under the Privacy Act 2020.
7. Cookies and analytics
We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you logged in, remember preferences, secure the Platform, and understand how it is used. You can control cookies in your browser, but disabling them may break parts of the Platform such as login and booking.
8. Retention
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes above. Booking, payment, and tax records are generally retained for at least seven years to meet legal and accounting obligations. When information is no longer required, we delete or de-identify it.
9. Security
We use technical and organisational measures including encrypted connections, access controls, and permission-based data access to protect your information. No system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a privacy breach occurs that is likely to cause serious harm, we will notify affected users and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner as required by law.
10. Your rights
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Request correction of anything inaccurate or incomplete.
- Request deletion of your account and associated data, subject to records we must retain.
- Opt out of marketing at any time.
- Complain to us, and to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner (privacy.org.nz) if you are not satisfied with our response.
Contact info@moorina.co.nz to exercise any of these rights. We may need to verify your identity first, and we aim to respond within 20 working days.
11. Third-party links
The Platform may link to third-party websites and services. We are not responsible for their privacy practices, and we encourage you to read their policies.
12. Children
The Platform is not intended for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from minors. If we learn that we have, we will delete it.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will update the "Last updated" date and, where changes are significant, notify you through the Platform or by email. Continued use after the change takes effect constitutes acceptance.
